Adapting to Your B2B Needs: What’s New in the Sparados Full API Integration Model
At Sparados, we believe fintech should be deeply agile. Modern businesses aren't looking for another standalone finance app to switch back and forth between. Instead, they need an "invisible payment engine", a financial infrastructure embedded so seamlessly into their existing business tools that employees don't even realize they're using a third-party service.
When a company integrates our Full API (Application Programming Interface), they are choosing complete autonomy. It means they can build corporate card issuing, real-time tracking, and account management directly into their own software interface.
To give our partners even tighter control and cleaner data workflows, we’ve rolled out major upgrades to our API integration model. Here is a clear breakdown of what has changed, why it matters, and how it transforms day-to-day expense management.

1. Smoother Team Syncing: Faster User Retrieval
Managing employee data across complex corporate branches or departments requires frictionless data syncing. If your platform doesn't talk smoothly to your card issuer, things get messy quickly.
To fix this, we have optimized how user lists are fetched. Systems can now query our network to instantly pull a clean, complete list of every active end user under a corporate account.
How it works: Instead of making developers hunt through multiple layers of data or sort out overlapping search filters, our system serves up complete user profiles instantly.
The business benefit: Each profile contains a single unique identifier code. A company's internal software can lock onto this ID to instantly spin up, freeze, or adjust card rules for that specific team member without any delays.
2. Guardrails vs. Budgets: Clearer Corporate Spending Boundaries
One of the most requested design changes from our corporate partners was a cleaner separation between how much money a card has and where that money is allowed to be spent. To erase any confusion for finance teams, we have strictly separated Card Budgets from Behavioral Fraud Controls (Additional Limits).
Think of a Card Budget as the physical amount of fuel in the tank, while Additional Limits are the map telling the driver where they are allowed to go.
Card Budgets: This is an independent layer determining the maximum pool of money allocated to a specific card. Crucially, it is decoupled from the main underlying business account balance. It relies on two real-time numbers:
The Baseline Budget: The absolute ceiling assigned to the card.
The Dynamic Balance: The actual remaining spendable amount, which ticks down instantly after a successful swipe.
For example: If an employee starts with a monthly budget of €1,000.00 and spends €250.00 on a client dinner, their structural budget remains marked at €1,000.00, but their live available balance instantly reflects €750.00.
Additional Limits: These are behavioral guardrails running in the background. They govern the how, where, and when — such as blocking specific types of stores (using Merchant Category Codes), whitelisting trusted vendors, setting weekend blocks, or enforcing location boundaries (geofencing).
3. Dynamic Budget Scaling: Real-Time Adjustments on the Fly
In the business world, unexpected expenses are a guarantee. A sales representative on the road might run into sudden flight cancellations or an urgent client emergency requiring a quick budget increase. In older legacy setups, this required a clunky, multi-step process to rewrite the employee's entire card profile.
We’ve removed that friction entirely by introducing a dynamic, real-time scaling feature.
The Fix: Instead of overwriting old profiles, companies can send a simple plus-or-minus command to an active card. Want to add a quick €100.00 for an emergency hotel stay? A quick positive update pushes it through instantly. Need to dial back a budget by €50.00? Send a negative instruction.
Safety First: This operation only alters the card's local spending boundary. It acts as an approval buffer - it never moves or withdraws actual cash out of your primary funding account until a purchase occurs.
4. Set It and Forget It: Automated Allowance Resets
For companies managing recurring allowances - like monthly travel allotments, software subscription limits, or weekly meal stipends - resetting card caps manually used to require endless internal tracking.
To save administrative hours, we implemented a hands-off automation rule. Finance systems can now signal an automatic refresh on an active card.
The Automation: This routine automatically clears out the previous cycle's "spent" metrics and opens up the full budget for the next cycle.
Ultimate Flexibility: If a company decides to permanently raise or lower an allowance (e.g., bumping a meal stipend up for a new quarter), they can feed the new amount directly into the reset request. The system will overwrite the old ceiling and launch the new cycle with the updated value instantly.
Developer Implementation Notes: Full API Integration Model
For engineering teams migrating to or updating their implementation of the Sparados Full API, here are the critical technical constraints and payload expectations to ensure a smooth deployment.
User Provisioning & Lifecycle Tracking (GET /secure/users/): The response payload from GET /secure/users/ returns an array of user objects. Ensure your local database maps the returned data attribute id to your local userId foreign key. This object mapping is required to reference target identities in all downstream /secure/cards/* commands.
The Anatomy of a Transaction Authorization: During a live transaction, the processor evaluates budgetMinor and balanceMinor concurrently with behavioral limit layers (mccGroup, whitelists, geofencing). The transaction is approved only if it passes both vectors. All currency attributes are managed strictly in minor units (e.g., $100.00 \text{ EUR} = 10000$). Your application layer must parse integers directly to prevent floating-point rounding errors during financial calculations.$$\text{balanceMinor}_{\text{new}} = \text{balanceMinor}_{\text{current}} - \text{transactionAmountMinor}$$
Delta-Based Budgeting via PATCH /secure/cards/{id}/budget: Rather than executing an expensive read-modify-write cycle on the entire card resource, use PATCH /secure/cards/{id}/budget to apply atomic deltas.
The payload requires a signed integer for adjustmentAmountMinor.
Pre-condition: The card must already possess an initialized budget layout. Attempting to apply a delta adjustment to a card without a baseline budget configuration will result in an HTTP 409 Conflict error.
Automated Balance Resets via POST /secure/cards/{id}/budget/reset: To automate cyclical allowances (e.g., cron-scheduled monthly resets), issue a POST request to the reset sub-resource.
Leaving the request body empty forces the system to pull the existing budgetMinor profile and reset balanceMinor back to that threshold.
To alter the threshold dynamically during the reset event, pass the newBudgetMinor field in the request body. Like the PATCH endpoint, this will throw an HTTP 409 Conflict error if no prior budget has been initialized on the card.
