In today's world, technology significantly simplifies everyday tasks, and one area that has undergone considerable change is how we withdraw cash from ATMs. Traditional methods of withdrawing money using debit or credit cards are increasingly being replaced by modern contactless methods, utilizing smartphones and other mobile devices.

Poland, being one of the leaders in the adoption of modern payment technologies, can boast that more than half of the ATMs in the country allow cash withdrawals using contactless methods. This means that users can withdraw funds without physically inserting a card into the machine.


How Does It Work?


Withdrawing cash contactlessly using a mobile phone is a simple and convenient process. The key elements are having a phone with NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality and an installed mobile wallet application, such as Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

To withdraw cash:

  • Activate the Mobile Wallet: Open the Apple Wallet or Google Wallet app on your smartphone.

  • Select the Card: Choose the card from which you want to withdraw money.

  • Approach the ATM: Place your phone close to the ATM, at the spot marked with the NFC symbol.

  • Confirm the Transaction: Enter the card's PIN on the ATM to confirm the transaction.


Security and convenience


The process of withdrawing cash contactlessly with a card and phone is identical in terms of functionality and differs only in the method of authorization. In both cases, a contactless connection is used, followed by the necessity to enter the PIN to confirm the user's identity and authorize the transaction.

  • Security: The absence of a need to insert the card into the ATM minimizes the risk of skimming, which is the theft of card data using special devices mounted on ATMs.

  • Speed and Convenience: The process is quick and intuitive, reducing the time required to complete the transaction.
